Parent Academy Discussion Panel

Parent Academy Discussion Panel

On Wednesday, January 29, 2020, Thomas Edison EnergySmart Charter School held their first Parent Academy discussion panel, titled “Making the Most of My Charter School”. This free event was an opportunity for parents both of the school community and the local community to listen to insight and viewpoints from a diverse panel of experts. Harry Lee, President of the NJ Charter School Association, moderated the event. The panel guests included Mr. Nihat Guvercin, CEO of iLearn Schools of NJ and NY, Mrs. Charlotte Kelly, a parent of a student at TEECS, Mr. Colin Gross, a Charter School Teacher, and Mr. Rick Pressler, former Executive Director of Greater Brunswick Charter and Education Consultant. Held during National School Choice week, the panelists were able to shed light on the idea that parents do have a choice in finding the best possible experience for their students, because each child deserves a challenging education that provides a level of joy and engagement that not only meets that child’s individual needs but inspires a life-long learner. This was the first installment in a series of Parent Academy events that the school will host throughout the school year.
