19 Feb Black History Month Celebration
Students in Grades K-8 welcomed special guest TAHIRA from “Young Audiences Arts for Learning” with her program entitled “Freedom Stories.” In her performance, she tells the stories of freedom fighters while giving a compelling look at the people who took extraordinary risks for freedom.
Some of her call and response songs included “John the Rabbit,” which contained coded messages used by enslaved Africans to devise a plan of escape. Students were active and engaged as she included them in the storytelling and shared the importance of showing courage and kindness.
