The Thomas Edison EnergySmart Charter School is excited to celebrate Earth Day this year.

During the day on April 22nd, the faculty and students will spend the day recognizing the importance of the planet and living a healthy lifestyle. Activities will include:

– Reducing our use of plastic by having the cafeteria serve lunch with compostable sporks instead of plastic utensils

– Planting a cherry tree that was donated by a parent to the Green Team & Environmental Alliance Club

– Planting an apple tree that the Green Team purchased

– Installing “No Littering” signs on the school property

– Tie dying old shirts and picking up trash around the school or neighborhood (if students are virtual) in elementary classes

– Recognizing the families that have made significant contributions to our Green Team including donating a homemade garden bench and TEECS’s first living wall.

– Participating in Earth Day integrated lesson activities in High school and the Dual Enrollment RVCC Environmental Science Academy

In addition, TEECS has decided to continue our Earth Day celebration this year by hosting our first ever Wellness Fair that is open to the public. This event will encourage healthy living, healthy habits and sustainable practices for a healthier planet. There will be vendors on site, performances, giveaways and more. Some of the vendors will include a physical therapist, a chiropractor, the school nurse and doctor, the school’s food manager, and clean eating by So Fresh/So Clean. Some of the activities will include a yoga class, a zumba class, a martial arts demonstration, fitness challenges for the kids organized by the school’s PE teacher, and a performance by the school’s Sparkle Club. Free, healthy meals will be given to attendees from the vendors as well as plants and flowers from the school’s Environmental Alliance Club. Lastly, the school has held a month-long Step Challenge and will be awarding the winners a prize at the fair.
