April 20, 2021
This letter is to inform you that the State NJSLA tests have been canceled for the
2020-21 academic Year. The New Jersey Department of Education has been given
permission to instead test students in the Fall of the 2021-22 academic year, on the
previous year’s standards. As a reminder, students in Grades 3 through 11 participate
in NJSLA testing.
In lieu of NJSLA, students will take the Start Strong Assessment in September 2021.
This assessment is very similar to the NJSLA format, but has been modified
significantly to minimize student testing time.
As you may know, TEECS had planned to administer the NJSLA testing during the
window of May 17 to May 28, 2021. We will now use that same window to administer
the Start Strong Assessment Practice Tests, as well as End of Year Assessments for
our Middle and High School students. Please see the below testing schedule for a
complete overview of when your child(ren) will be testing.
Additionally, as we build our academic calendar for the upcoming school year, we have
set aside the window for the statewide Start Strong Assessments. Please see those
Students taking the Start Strong Assessment in the Fall will be assessed on standards
from their previous academic year (example: Students in Grade 4 will be assessed on
Grade 3 standards).
Thank you for your understanding and continued support!
