Franklin Township: Thomas Edison EnergySmart Charter School Celebrates Earth Day

Thomas Edison EnergySmart Charter School students and faculty celebrated Earth Day 2019 with some special activities this week.

SOMERSET, NJ – Thomas Edison EnergySmart Charter School students and faculty celebrated Earth Day 2019 with some special activities this week.

All grades participated in various activities, from cleaning with environmentally friendly products to sign making with recycled products, according to school officials. All classes from Kindergarten to 9th grade kicked off Earth Day 2019 celebrations by cleaning their classrooms, desks, lockers, and cubbies with sustainable Earth cleaning wipes, according to school officials.

TEECS, Lead Person, Oguz Yildiz says Kindergarten classes held a solar cookout, 1st-grade classes painted rocks to decorate the school garden, 2nd-grade classes planted some new plants and 3rd-grade classes made signs for the school’s new composter.

Fourth-grade students cleaned neighboring property of the school while 5th and 6th-grade classes helped hang a TEECS sign made out of bottle caps on the school’s fence, according to Yildiz. Seventh-grade students planted flowers and plants along the fence of the school’s parking lot.

Eighth-grade students ventured out to Pierce Street to clean up the main road while 9th graders went on a nature hike. Yildiz also said all classes had a picnic lunch on the school’s soccer field.
