TEECS PTO Celebrates Opening Day with the Somerset Patriots

BRIDGEWATER, NJ – Thomas Edison EnergySmart Charter School PTO held one of its biggest fundraising events of the year during the Somerset Patriots Opening Day doubleheader.

The TEECS Sparkle Squad performed a few routines for the crowd and the glee club sung the National Anthem. Head of Security Nick Gargus stepped in for TEECS Lead Person, Oguz Yildiz and threw out the first pitch.

“We are so proud of our students for being part of the Opening Ceremony,” Yildiz said. “We always encourage our students to join community events: baseball games, senior citizen homes, NBA basketball games. It is all about being a good and productive citizen; that’s our aim all the time.”

The TEECS PTO is raising money for a new high school science lab and other things not covered in the school’s budget. This year and next they will run many different fundraisers such as dine-outs at area restaurants, bowling night, and many more events geared towards bringing the TEECS community together.

“The PTO works hard to have fun and exciting family events for the students while raising money for the science lab, TEECS PTO President, Jennifer Zinna-Chatman said. “These students work so hard every day and we feel it is our responsibility to make sure that they are appreciated while having a good time.”

The Somerset Patriots split the opening games against New Britain Bees at TD Bank Ballpark.
